How to become a Connections Volunteer
The Connections Ministry at Greenock Uniting Church is overseen by the
congregation, who employs a part-time Coffee Shop Coordinator to manage this
valuable community outreach venture - supported by more than 40 volunteers.
Volunteer Team Leaders coordinate teams of 3-4 volunteers during openings,
whose responsibilities include baking, setting up and packing down, taking orders
and operating the till, plating up food orders, preparing espresso coffees and
other beverages, waiting tables, washing dishes, and occasionally mentoring local
secondary school and TAFE students. Other opportunities exist to cook lunch
dishes, provide flowers for tables, coordinate artworks displays, or facilitate
school holiday activities. And any assistance in the areas of administration,
marketing, cleaning, gardening and maintenance is always gratefully received.
Volunteers can be involved in as much or as little of the operation of Connections
Coffee Shop as they feel comfortable with - from off-site baking to on-site
staffing, front-of-house to back-of-house roles, half days to full days, and/or
weekly to monthly commitments. All relevant orientation and training is provided,
as well as volunteer recognition events. Furthermore, Greenock Uniting Church is
a Centrelink-approved ‘not-for-profit’ voluntary workplace provider.
Connections Coffee Shop is proud to be supported by volunteers and
is extremely grateful for the contribution that they make to the
success of the venture.
