At the heart of the Connections Ministry at Greenock Uniting Church is community - from the
members of Greenock Uniting Church, to the volunteers, patrons, suppliers and supporters of
the Coffee Shop.  Those who serve, and those who are served.
Greenock Uniting Church itself is centrally located, adjacent to the Village Square.  And
belying its traditional-looking rendered-brick appearance, is a dynamic hub that has been
developed ‘by the community for the community’ to provide a variety of opportunities to
connect people of all ages and backgrounds in real and relevant ways.  Where there were
once pews, there are now café tables & chairs, espresso machine, service counter with cash
register, cake fridge, book-shelf filled with quality second-hand books, local art and craft,
children’s toys and activities.  And where there was once a vestry, there is now a kitchen with
an under-bench hot water service, in-line mains water filter, hand basin, fridge and
microwave.  The switchboard has been upgraded, mains water piping replaced, second-
hand pavers laid, and the garden re-planted with a selection of natives.  And the small fibro-
cement Meeting Room has been re-roofed through the generosity of a local shed business,
and donated second-hand roofing iron.
Connections Coffee Shop is highly regarded and valued within the community, providing a
warm and welcoming space for all - like the young mums who meet to share the ‘ups and
downs’ of parenting, the Ulysses motorcyclists who enjoy the companionship of a group of
mates with a shared interest, the talented locals who welcome the opportunity to exhibit
artworks and/or sell hand-crafted items, the students who undertake work placements, and
the tourists who just happen to be passing through. Then there are the primary school-aged
children and their parents/carers who enthusiastically embrace the Connections School
Holiday Activity and Meal Deal Program, the Greenock Uniting Church Ladies
Friendship Group and other groups who regularly meet throughout the year, and the
CU@Connections members who meet each Sunday evening during school terms.  And
Connections Coffee Shop is sure to open when there are any community events held in the
Greenock Village Square, like the ‘Tour Down Under’ - when the ‘Big Bikes, Little Bikes’
Group also gets out their weird and wonderful collection of bikes!
Connections Coffee Shop particularly enjoys a special relationship with Greenock’s Primary
School, Jersey Fresh (milk and cream), Lucky 7 Convenience Store and Post Office, and is also
proudly associated with Vittoria Coffee, Barossa Community Store, Northland Packaging,
Barossa Valley Cheese Company, Zimmy’s Barossa Valley Produce, Linke’s Central Meat
Store, and the GOoD Seed Christian Bookshop.  Local food and wine businesses also
generously sponsor Volunteer Recognition Events
In ‘giving back’, Greenock Uniting Church administers a Community Donations Program
that funds the valuable work of local community groups and/or initiatives, as well as Uniting
Church in Australia mission projects.  Over the years, monies have been donated to the
Greenock Village Community Association, Greenock Primary School and Playgroup, Greenock
Junior Cricket Club, Greenock CFS, Greenock Centenary Park, Greenock Institute, Women’s
and Children’s Hospital Auxilary - Greenock Branch, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Holiday Bible

denominational Women’s UR Event (now known as Unlimited), and as prizes at fundraising
events for Tanunda Lutheran School and two young people’s German Exchange.  Requests
